Currently, Jorge is an adjunct professor at Old Dominion University, and the lead coach at Lifelong Learning Defined (LLD). Through LLD — he provides engaging professional development (PD) and coaches assistant superintendents, directors, principals, and teachers. Additionally, he provides PD on behalf of the Teach Better Team and PBLWorks.
Through modeling direct instruction in tandem with evidence-based strategies and educational protocols, Jorge provides sessions for educators that are inspirational, actionable, and fun. These sessions aim to redesign entire schools and classrooms by empowering educators to understand and implement federal policy, the needs of the workforce, and sound teaching practice through project-based learning, computational thinking, computer science, STEM Education, emotional intelligence, and restorative practices.
Jorge is also both a published researcher and the author of Rev Up Robotics. He is an avid writer and blogger with his work featured by USA Today, Mediaplanet USA, Edutopia, ISTE, eSchool News, Tech and Learning, Teach Better Team, PBLWorks, and on Medium. He is also an advocate for educational technology and effective teacher preparation and is a recipient of both ISTE’s Computer Science Excellence Award and STEM Excellence Award. He has also earned the Lynn Barrier Engineering Leadership Award for his contributions to STEM education in the Commonwealth of Virginia and was recently appointed by the Governor of Virginia to the Virginia STEM Education Commission.

Keynotes, Workshops & Sessions

To help schools and districts during the current crisis —

our services have moved virtually (using Zoom, NearPod and FligpGrid). We have also expanded some of our PD topics so they are relevant to the programs you serve:

These will be facilitated in 3 Steps:
  1. 60 minutes for a virtual session
  2. The teachers work alone for a day or two
  3. 60 minutes for a follow up virtual session
Note: Curriculum and lesson development will need to take place in 4 modules.
The price is $120 per hour (which includes planning) — so each module will cost $240.
  1. Coding & programming (either littleBits, Sphero robots, or through online tutorials)
  2. Computational thinking and computer science integration
  3. Curriculum and lesson development
  4. Restorative practices for restorative justice
  5. Understanding and mastering emotions (SEL)
  6. Tools for helping students improve self-management skills in at-home learning
  7. Developing learning stations/centers for differentiated instruction
  8. Leadership coaching for principals and directors (Aligning federal/local mandates, needs of the workforce and teaching practice across the curriculum)

Teaching Better Demystified

Breakout sessions and a book signing of Jorge’s NEW BOOK — ‘REV Up Robotics’ can also be included in a package with this keynote.

SESSION TYPE

Keynote Talk (One day)
Keynote Talk with 1-2 breakout session(s) (One day)
Keynote Talk with a book signing (One day)
Keynote Talk with 1-2 breakout session(s) and book signing (One day)

SESSION LENGTH

Keynote Talk: 45-60 Minutes
Breakout Session: 60-90 Minutes
Book Signing: 60-90 Minutes

SESSION / PRESENTATION DESCRIPTION : This keynote redefines what it means to 'teach better' by empowering educators and schools with actionable steps designed for both personal and professional peak performance.

Schools and districts can tailor content in this keynote session to include hot topics in education reform and school redesign — such as federal policy, workforce needs, project-based learning, computational thinking, computer science, STEM Education, emotional intelligence, and restorative practices.

OBJECTIVES: Through modeling direct instruction in tandem with evidence-based strategies and educational protocols, Jorge provides both keynote and breakout sessions that are inspirational, actionable, and fun for all educators (i.e., administrators, instructional leaders and teachers).

Both keynote and breakout sessions aim to redesign entire schools and classrooms by empowering educators to understand and implement federal policy, the needs of the workforce, and sound teaching practice through project-based learning, computational thinking, computer science, STEM Education, emotional intelligence, and restorative practices.

Districts and schools can work with Jorge and the Teach Better Team to tailor session topics to fit the needs of the organization. Topics include but are not limited to federal policy, workforce needs, project-based learning, computational thinking, computer science, STEM Education, emotional intelligence, and restorative practices.

Rev-Up Robotics and Computational Thinking Across the Curriculum

Breakout Session: 60-90 Minutes
Book Signing: 60-90 Minutes

SESSION / PRESENTATION DESCRIPTION : This keynote addresses both the content and sections from my recently published book — Rev Up Robotics Real-World Computational Thinking in the K–8 Classroom. This is an excellent session for districts and conferences interested in developing professional development plans (for districts and schools) for robotics in tandem with computational thinking and computer science.

OBJECTIVES: Keeping educational equity and deeper learning as the ultimate outcome for students engaged in learning about robotics, this session is designed for teachers as a guide to help them apply the necessary rigor levels deemed appropriate and in context with their content area and at all stages of instruction.

Districts and schools can work with Jorge and the Teach Better Team to tailor hands-on breakout sessions to fit the needs of the organization. Topics include but are not limited to demystifying computational thinking, coding using littleBits programming Sphero robots and lesson planning for computer science (an additional 2 days).

Curriculum and Lesson Development

Breakout sessions and a  book signing of Jorge’s NEW BOOK — ‘REV Up Robotics’ can also be included in a package with this two-day workshop.
